Summer is a glorious time to visit Durango. With fantastic, beautiful mountain weather, you can find activities from sunrise to sunset to fill your day. Take a stroll down our Historic Downtown Main Avenue where you will find unique shops, restaurants, galleries, boutiques and more. For the adventure seeker, take a trip down the Animas River with one of our local rafting companies, mountain bike on some of Colorado’s best biking trails or visit Purgatory Mountain Park and ride the Mountain Coaster. Explore our local trails and beautiful lakes. Or kick up your heals with a good brew at one of our local brew pubs. Whether you have come for the trails, brews or just to relax in the sun, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Summer Events

Summertime in Durango is filled with lots of amazing events that are great for the whole family! There are many weekly events like Concerts at the Park, True Western Roundup rodeo, Farmers Market and more. Other events not to be missed include Music in the Mountains, Four Corners Gem and Mineral show and Men Who Grill. The summer wraps up with the biggest beer tasting festival, the San Juan Brewfest at the end of August. Summer is jammed packed with some great events not to be missed.

Summer Attractions

Durango offers several must see attractions that you will want to add to your list when you visit. Families will enjoy a full day of activities that is offered at Purgatory Mountain. Summer activities kick off in mid-June with a variety of activities like the mountain coaster, Alpine Slide, zip line and more. Durango is lucky enough to have a National Park in our area. Mesa Verde National Park is a unique National Park like no other, giving you a chance to view sites of ancestral pueblo people who make Mesa Verde their home over 700 years ago. A stop that everyone will enjoy. And finally, the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is an experience of a lifetime. This trip will offer spectacular views deep into the heart of the San Juan National Forest. Offering a few different excursion options, with both shorter and longer trips.
